Begonia 2 textured

Begonia 2 textured, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

I'm really proud of how this came out! With the texture it reminds me of a painting.

Rusty Grill Texture

Rusty Grill Texture, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

The little camping grill gets more and more rusty and discolored the more it gets rained on.

I'm not sure I've got the color balance right on this one. Welcome your suggestions!

This is my favorite new texture! It's from the top of a barrel Kevin's had for years.

Old VW Textures

I had a great time taking pictures of old VWs when we had to pick up Kevin's 1976 Volkswagen Type II Bus from the shop. There were a lot of old Buses and Beetles that must have been there just for parts. There were also a few that were being repaired and/or restored. I saw a shiny light blue and white van and a beautiful orange car, but those aren't as interesting to photograph, now are they?

Check these out on my Flickr page to see them separated and much larger: http://www.flickr.com/photos/orchidphoto/

Blue Grooves

Blue Grooves, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

Since I started this learning experiment of photographing a lot of different things, I've been suddenly noticing things around me. It doesn't happen everyday, unfortunately. That sure would make doing this blog easier!

So one morning I reached for a cotton ball in my "peacock" pottery jar. I randomly closed in on the detail of the lid. I wanted a macro to really show the texture in the lines and grooves.

Ink and Paper

Ink and Paper, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

This is writing ink dripped onto handmade paper. I have no idea why this idea popped into my head. I can't draw or paint, so I rarely make anything.

I wanted to get a close-up to show the texture of the paper, and how the ink ran together and spread. I think it came out pretty well.

Rusty Bicycle

Bicycle & Cactus, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

Johnson City, TX series #5. More rusty, cracked and weird stuff, but with some random cactus thrown in! Awesome.

Rusted Gears

Rusted Gears, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.

Johnson City, TX Series #4. A black and white of some rusty gears hanging on a wall. There are things hanging everywhere in this place, which I'll probably show in another photo.

What attracted me to these gears is that each one had a different color and texture. The wall also had a lot of bumps, cracks and stains. I decided to go black and white to showcase the texture over the rusty colors.

Colorful Water Towers

I'm not feeling that well today and am really tired, so I didn't take a new photo. This is another in the series of Johnson City, TX photos, and another attempt at HDR.

I'm also having trouble with Flickr lately on the "blog this" feature. It looks better on Flickr, so head over there.

Please leave comments on HDR!

Feather in Black & White

Feather in Black & White, originally uploaded by Orchid Photo.
My fiance and Denali went on a walk and came back with a big white feather. I took a bunch of photos and played around with them before settling on a color outdoor shot, and a black and white indoor shot. Pick your fave!
